About Front Radar (Adaptive Cruise / AEB)

Front radar is responsible for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking.

Also Known As:

  • Millimetre Wave Radar
  • Pre-Crash System

How it Works: The radar emits radio waves, which bounce off objects and return to the sensor. The time and strength of the return signal determines distance and speed.

Location:

  • Behind the front bumper or front grille emblem

Calibration Required When:

  • Radar is removed, disturbed, or replaced
  • Vehicle has had front-end impact repairs
  • Front bumper, grille, or badge is replaced
  • Wheel alignment is performed (in some OEMs)

Common Failures:

  • Installed backwards or upside down
  • The mounting bracket is bent after an accident
  • Incorrect vertical / horizontal angles
  • Hidden damage from drops or impacts

Common Applications:

  • Volkswagen Passat, Golf (2015+)
  • Ford Ranger, Everest (2019+)
  • Toyota Hilux, Prado (2017+)
  • Mercedes-Benz C, E, and GLC classes (2016+)
