About Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) & Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

These systems detect vehicles in the driver’s blind spot or approaching from the side when reversing. They increase safety during lane changes and when exiting parking spaces.

Also Known As:

  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)

  • Side Object Detection (SOD)

  • Rear Side Radar

  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD)

Location:

  • Inside rear bumper corners or quarter panels

Calibration Required When:

  • Sensors are removed or disturbed

  • The rear bumper is replaced or removed

  • Panels are damaged or altered in a collision

Common Failures:

  • Sensors swapped left-to-right

  • Bent brackets after light impacts

  • Improper rivet or clip installation

Common Applications:

  • Hyundai i30, Tucson (2017+)

  • Kia Sportage, Seltos (2020+)
