About LiDAR Sensors

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors are used for obstacle detection and pedestrian protection, especially in low-speed or stop/start driving scenarios.

How it Works: LiDAR emits infrared pulses and measures the reflection time to map distances and detect shapes. It creates a high-resolution 3D image of nearby objects.

Mounting Location:

  • Behind the windscreen (usually near the front camera)

Calibration Required When:

  • Windscreen or LiDAR unit is removed or replaced

  • The camera/LiDAR unit is disconnected or reinstalled

  • Nearby bodywork is altered or replaced

Potential Issues:

  • Misalignment after windscreen replacement

  • Incorrect reinstallation or obstructed view

Common Applications:

  • Volvo XC90, XC60 (2016+)

  • Audi A8, Q7 (2018+ with pedestrian detection)

  • Toyota and Lexus hybrids (select models 2020+)
